Jack Frost's twinkly-white New Year greeting thawed quickly with the rising sun this morning, giving way to a gloriously crisp and clear Jour de l'An. Bright blue skies and welcoming rays of winter sunshine: a perfect day for a stroll on the beach!
Chatelaillon Plage, just 40 minutes' drive from Rue Vincent, draws many to its clean stretches of soft, golden sand, sparkling seashore, beach-front Belle Époque villas and bustling resort shops and restaurants both in season and out.
Picnickers, strollers, hardy swimmers, dog walkers, shell-skimmers and sandcastle builders a-plenty, all enjoying the sunshine. I wish I had taken more photos!
Just along the coast, the little, almost-island resort of Fouras offers excellent views of Fort Boyard (of TV fame) and l’île d’Aix; the latter reached by ferry from le Port de la Fumée, even today!
The oysters sold direct from the waterside huts and served in the seafront restaurants couldn't be any closer to home!
Splendid scenery and wonderful weather: what a delightful way to welcome in 2015.
Happy New Year everyone!
