Summer days, drifting away...

I can't believe it has been so long since I last posted!  It has certainly been busy here at Rue Vincent, with plenty of visitors to our peaceful corner of the Charente Maritime.

Spring's green shoots have been engulfed by a riot of summer colours and soaring temperatures. The garden is heady with the scent of our lavender hedges, spilling gracefully in all directions and obliterating the path to our front door.  Meanwhile the sultry air is punctuated by birdsong and filled with the soothing hum of bees by day and crickets by night.

Nature's bounty has kept us busy making preserves for our welcome pack from the raspberries and gooseberries and keeping a watchful eye on the orchard, where it looks like we have a bumper crop of apples, plums and figs to look forward to. Sunflowers are bursting into life in neighbouring fields and the grain harvest has begun in earnest.

Our guests have been enjoying the pool - now a balmy 30 degrees and very inviting on long sunny evenings. Afternoons such as these are made for relaxing under the shade of the trees with a good book, playing pool in the games barn or snoozing within the cool stone walls of Le Vincent - no air conditioning needed.

Feeling a bit more energetic? St Jean d'Angély, just a short drive away, has lots to offer.  Why not take a look around Rue Vincent and the town for yourself?
