Considered one of the best in Europe, the aquarium boasts an impressive 12,000 marine animals, with 75 different aquaria within the complex – in three million litres of sea water! It is fantastic for families as there is something for everyone and for children of all ages. Many of the bigger tanks are at ground level, meaning that even small children can get up close to many of the creatures.  A visit lasts about two hours.

Cognac Distillery -Jean Balluet & Le Château de Neuvicq

One of a number of local cognac producers, a vist to Balluet at Neuvicq-le-Chateau offers a free guided tour with tastings and a chance to see the distilling process on a much more intimate level than when visiting some of the larger houses in and around Cognac itself. The tower which once housed workers at harvest time, is now a stairway to a 360 degree viewing deck with an uninterrupted vista for miles around and a map to point out the landmarks. Cognac and Pineau des Charentes is sold directly onsite.

In addition to the distillery, a visit to Le  Château de Neuvicq after which the village is named, is well worth the small detour and is not expensive. Some great photo opportunities in both places!
